How to Plan the Catering for Your Indian Themed Party

An Indian themed party gives you the chance to not only explore a rich culture, but to also serve tasty food while doing it, the kind of food that features distinctive seasonings and savory ingredient combinations. We know that planning the catering for a party can be overwhelming so we’re here to help you on your Indian exploration.

The Basics

Along with making or ordering invitations, choosing a location for the party and purchasing the decorations, you’ll need to plan the catering for your Indian themed party. For the catering, it’s important to know how many people will be attending, what kind of food you want at the party and how to serve it.

Portion Estimates Per Person

If you’re serving hors d’oeuvres, plan for about 6 bites per person before a meal. If you’re considering just serving hors d’oeuvres without a main dish, then offer your guests 4 to 6 bites every hour of the party. For longer parties with more guests, include a greater number of food selections.

If you’re going all out and serving a main meal, then plan 6 ounces of fish, meat or poultry for one main dish and 8 ounces if you want to offer two or more. You’ll need 1.5 ounces of rice or grains per person when these food items are a side dish and 4 ounces of vegetables.

Food Considerations

When planning the catering for your Indian themed party, there are several ways that you can go. For instance, you could go with an all-appetizer menu by serving Corn Pakoras, Samosas and Vegetable Pakoras. An Indian food buffet is another option. To plan the catering for a buffet, order foods like Chicken Tikka Kebabs, Bhindi Masala, Chicken Tikka Masala and Saffron Rice. If you want to serve an elegant meal at a dinner table, then let your catering company know that you’d like Lamb Coconut Korma, Shrimp Coconut Korma or Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani.

For an Indian themed event, you’ll want to offer your guests dessert. Your local Indian catering company can provide you with Gulab Jamun, Fruit Salad in Custard and Rice Pudding. Don’t forget to get traditional beverages like Lasi or Masala Chai.
