Keep Calm And Curry On Program Impact

(Photo by Justin Prather / Strange Lake Photography)

Last month we announced our "Keep Calm and Curry On" program where we gave back to a different group of service providers who show up every day during this challenging time to keep us all going.

The Recap

The first week we thanked HEALTHCARE WORKERS including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists with a free Chicken Tikka Wrap plus mint and tamarind chutneys, a cookie, and soft drink.

The second week we gave away a free meal for GROCERY WORKERS including managers, associates, stockers, cashiers, baggers, and delivery drivers who bring goods to the stores. They received a Butter Chicken Burger made from pulled tandoori chicken and butter sauce with a slice of lemon pound cake and soft drink.

The third week we provided a free meal for FIRST RESPONDERS including police officers, EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, and 911 dispatchers. Their complimentary meal was a Chicken Tikka Masala bowl with rice, naan, soft drink, and dessert.

(Thanks to our sister bakery Biscotts for making and donating the desserts!)

The Impact

In total, we gave away nearly 2,000 meals in three weeks. We are very grateful for the community support we've received the past 10 years, and are committed to giving back during this difficult time. Yet we soon realized it wasn’t enough…

The Need

While our #KeepCalmAndCurryOn program made a significant impact, the need is greater than our ability to honor select groups of valued front-line workers with a free meal. Right now, more families are struggling with food insecurity, and our local food banks are stretched thin.

Community Partnerships

With that in mind, we are open to working with organizations seeking to provide meal kits to families in need. For example, we are now partnering with Utah Pay It Forward to help as many people as possible in our community.

Co-founded by Brian Hymel and Gavin Dickson to uplift others -- and supported by generous donations from corporations, philanthropists, and individuals -- this new program helps feed families in need while providing sustainability for local restaurants like Saffron Valley.

As an official restaurant partner, we’re contributing 50 meal kits containing a total of 2,500 meals each week to feed 50 families of four for four days. In addition, we’ve donated our dining space and time to pack these provisions. As a locally owned, community-oriented business, we believe we should all come together and support one another.

To participate and help feed members of our community in need, just visit www.utahpayitforward.com/shop, select Saffron Valley, and the number of meals you'd like to donate. THANK YOU!

“If we all do a little we can do a lot together!”
